Neighborhood Leaders Endorse Kris Murray for Orange County Supervisor
Anaheim’s Oldest Neighborhood Associations Join Growing Coalition of Support for Murray
November 28, 2018
ANAHEIM, CALIF — Today, the Anaheim Neighborhood Association PAC and Anaheim Hills Community Council have both endorsed Kris Murray as the leading candidate for Orange County’s Third District Supervisor.
“Kris Murray has been a strong leader for Anaheim Hills and Orange County,” said Anaheim Hills Community Council President Jim Cain. “She led community outreach following devastating fires in 2017 and championed new wildland management programs protecting our communities going forward. Her contributions have improved quality of life services for all of Orange County. I am certain she is the best choice.”
Anaheim Neighborhood Association PAC President Larry Torgerson added, “the Anaheim Neighborhood Association PAC joins a broad coalition supporting Kris Murray for Orange County Supervisor. For over 25 years, Kris has been fighting for our communities to find commonsense solutions to complex problems like homeless encampments and to improve the quality of rental housing, eliminating slum conditions in Anaheim. Her work to improve public safety has been irreplaceable and as a result, our neighborhoods and parks are safer.”
Throughout her tenure on the Anaheim City Council, Murray has been a champion for neighborhood issues. She led efforts to restore Anaheim Police Department’s sworn personnel to pre-recession levels, expand services and resources for Anaheim Fire & Rescue, and developed the award-winning Anaheim Quality Rental Housing Program: Safe at Home, bringing more than 35,000 rental units up to code citywide and eliminating decades of slum conditions in Anaheim. Murray was instrumental in adding new family-resource community centers, neighborhood parks, and programs that support children and families.
Most recently, Murray authored Operation Home S.A.F.E. calling for a state of emergency to address the escalating homeless crisis and working with the County of Orange, Orange County Sheriff, and neighboring cities to provide shelter for hundreds of individuals, eliminate miles of riverbed encampments, and restore the Santa Ana River Trail for use by all who live and visit Orange County.
Upon announcing the endorsement, Murray said, “Both the Anaheim Neighborhood Association PAC and the Anaheim Hills Community Council have a pulse on our community. They have worked for years to ensure families have a safe place to call home and to preserve the quality of our neighborhoods. As a mother and a resident of Anaheim, their support is motivation to continue my work in local government.”
The Anaheim Neighborhood Association (ANA PAC) and Anaheim Hills Community Council (AHCC) have led major programs and initiatives serving their respective communities for decades. AHCC hosts the city’s annual Fourth of July Celebration, 5K/10K Firecracker Run, and Town Hall programs that keep residents apprised of local municipal issues. ANA led community efforts to develop the Anaheim Packing House District, protected historic areas of the oldest city in Orange County, formed the Anaheim Historic Preservation Foundation, and provides public forums for all residents at City Hall and County of Orange – most recently to oppose the Orange County Mobile Needle Exchange Program (OCNEP) from operating in Anaheim parks during after school hours.
Murray and her husband Steve love their community and are raising their family in Orange County. They are small business owners and live in Anaheim Hills with their son Garrett and two rescue dogs, Bailey and Copper. The Murray’s spend family time volunteering at Seneca OC serving at-risk foster children, Boy Scouts of America, Anaheim Hills Little League, and at their son’s school.
